Researchers at Carroll University in Wisconsin conducted a study involving 600 students, exploring the link between pet preference and personality.

While the majority identified as dog lovers, a smaller percentage pledged allegiance to the feline camp.

The results?

Cat people scored higher on intelligence tests and demonstrated a greater tendency towards intellectual curiosity.

Denise Guastello, an associate professor of psychology involved in the study, suggests that this finding aligns with typical personality traits associated with cat and dog lovers.

Dog people tend to be more extroverted and social, enjoying outdoor activities and interactions with others.

Cat people, on the other hand, often lean towards introversion and enjoy quieter pursuits like reading or spending time at home – activities that pair well with a feline companion’s independent nature.

Psychoanalyst Steve McKeown further supports this notion, stating that cat people are often “non-conformists” who value independence and critical thinking.

They’re also more likely to hold university degrees, indicating a higher level of education and a preference for pets that suit their busy lifestyles.

Interestingly, a separate study from 2010 found that cat lovers tend to be more conscientious and rule-abiding, mirroring the independent yet structured nature of cats themselves.
