A Second Chance at Life: How One Woman Saved a Special Needs Cat and Found Unconditional Love

When Daisy first laid eyes on Ladie Marmie at the “Clear the Shelters” event in South LA, she knew she had to save her life.

The emaciated, dirty, and matted cat with multiple health issues was scheduled for euthanasia within days.

But Daisy saw beyond Marmie’s physical appearance and recognized the loving soul within.

A Second Chance at Life

Marmie’s journey to a loving home was not an easy one. She tested positive for FIV, required three baths to clean her matted fur, and underwent full mouth extractions due to severe stomatitis.

Despite the challenges, Marmie’s purring and affectionate nature never wavered.

As Daisy learned more about Marmie’s health concerns, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, asthma, and a diaphragmatic hernia, she refused to give up on her.

Working at an animal hospital allowed Daisy to provide Marmie with the medical care she needed, giving her a second chance at life.

A Life Filled with Love and Happiness

Two years later, Marmie is thriving in her forever home.

Despite her health challenges, she remains playful, cuddly, and talkative.

She loves playing with her toys, going on walks in her harness, and basking in the afternoon sunlight.

Marmie’s presence has had a profound impact on Daisy’s life.

“She keeps me grounded, thankful, and happy, especially when I’m having a hard day,” Daisy shares. “She follows me everywhere I go in my apartment. If I’m in the kitchen, she’s watching me cook. And if I’m on the couch, she’s on my lap.”

A Heartbreaking Loss and a Fight for Change

In February, Daisy and Marmie faced a devastating loss when their 18-year-old kitty, Willow, died from accidental lily poisoning.

Determined to prevent other cat owners from experiencing the same heartbreak, Daisy started a petition on Change.org to require clear labeling of bouquets containing lilies, which are toxic to cats.
