Cat Accidentally Shipped In Amazon Box Reunites With Family After Six Days

Galena traveled in an Amazon box for six days!

A couple accidentally shipped their cat in an Amazon return package from Utah to California.

The cat, named Galena, traveled several hundred miles trapped in the box without food or water for six days.

Galena’s mom noticed her cat had gone missing on April 10.

For nearly a week, she, along with family and friends, searched the entire neighborhood and put up some “missing cat” posters around town, hoping to locate their beloved furbaby.

“The anxiety and stress of not knowing what happened to her was excruciating,” Galena’s mom said.

Days later, the family received a text notifying them that Galena’s microchip had been scanned, followed by a call from a veterinarian in California.

“We thought it was a prank!” they said.

The vet explained that the cat had been found inside an Amazon return package, alongside five pairs of steel-toed work boots.

“I told my husband that Galena was found, and we broke down upon realizing that she must have jumped into an oversized box that we shipped out the previous Wednesday,” Galena’s mom said.

An Amazon employee discovered Galena in a warehouse and took her to the vet.

Galena’s parents flew to California to be reunited with their cat.

“It was an amazing reunion! Galena instantly stopped shaking and relaxed in my arms when I got to hold her again,” her mom said. “Despite being skinnier and mildly dehydrated, her bloodwork was completely normal, and she was unharmed!”

Galena’s mom hopes this story inspires pet owners to understand the importance of microchipping their pets and keeping their contact information updated.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, one-third of pets will get lost at some point in their lives, but those with microchips are much more likely to be reunited with their owners.
